Bruce Munro: Tropical Light Volunteers Sought to Help Territorians with Cancer

Office of the Chief Minister

Two hundred Territorians have the opportunity to volunteer for Darwin’s world-class exhibition ‘Bruce Munro: Tropical Light’ and raise funds for Territory families dealing with cancer.

The world-first ‘Bruce Munro: Tropical Light’ exhibition will feature eight illuminated sculptures across the Darwin CBD and Waterfront, transforming Darwin’s traditionally quieter period from November to April into a not-to-be-missed tropical wonderland and providing significant flow-on benefits for local business.

Volunteers are being sought as exhibition hosts, artwork minders and visitor engagement promoters as well as raising funds for CanTeen, ensuring visitors receive an authentic warm Territory welcome.

Volunteers must commit four hours each week for 27 weeks throughout the exhibition, which runs from November 2019 to April 2020 and is expected to bring an extra 50 000 visitors to Darwin.

Territory businesses and individuals can sponsor a Tropical Light volunteer and every shift worked will earn a $100 donation for CanTeen, with the potential donation of $2,400 per volunteer and a total $480,000 across the program.

Funds raised will continue to support services for Territory and South Australian families living with cancer.

A public briefing for interested businesses and individuals will be held on Tuesday 27 August at 12pm in the Smith Street Mall, near Activate Darwin.

An auction will be held to register volunteers and secure the first donors, and businesses who commit the highest number of volunteers can secure naming rights for the program.
