Building a Strong Workforce to Create Healthy Territorians

Office of the Chief Minister

The Territory Labor Government today launched its blueprint for a quality health system delivered by a highly trained, capable and engaged workforce.

The NT Health Workforce Strategy 2019-2022 sets out guiding principles for a sustainable and highly capable workforce with an emphasis on partnerships across the health sector and with education providers.

The strategy contains four key objectives:

  • Attracting and retaining people with the right skills and capabilities, who demonstrate the NT Government’s values and meet the needs of the community;

  • Educating, training and developing people to reach their best potential

  • Planning for the future workforce and working collaboratively with each other

  • Ensuring the workforce reflects our diverse community, people feel engaged with their work and valued for their contribution.

The strategy supports existing initiatives such as Grow our Own which includes the Flinders NT Medical Program where Territorians can undertake a complete training program to become a medical practitioner without having to leave the Territory.

Quotes from the Minister for Health Natasha Fyles

“Our health professionals play a critical role in improving the lives of Territorians.

“Mechanisms for attracting and optimising the strengths and skills of our health professionals means we’ll be better positioned to meet the current and emerging health needs of Territorians.

“A better work environment also means more people will choose to call the Territory home which means more jobs and a more prosperous and vibrant region.”
