Office of the Chief Minister

Ongoing Dry Season splendour is being celebrated in the heart of Darwin this week with the 2019 Street Art Festival underway, concluding with the fourteenth Laneway Series event on Friday and a Street Party on Saturday night.

An initiative of the Territory Labor Government, the Darwin Street Art Festival is in its third year and features an additional 15 murals around the CBD.

The festival showcases local, national and international artists at work, that all centre around the theme Northern Wonders.

On Friday night the Laneway Series will see Smith Street between Knuckey Street and Edmunds Street turned into a Carnival, featuring live and DJ music, delicious food stands and a selection of beverages from 4pm.

Dancers from Salsita Dance School will be providing dance instruction for those daring enough to participate, and Karibu Collective will be performing.

The festival will wrap on Saturday Night with a street party in West Lane in a collaboration with local business WHY NOT from 7.00pm.

Everyone is encouraged to download the Darwin Street Art Festival app, which not only displays new and existing artwork locations but also includes an augmented reality feature, bringing three walls to life.

The augmented reality feature can be found on the turtle in West Lane, the bookshop wall and rainbow serpent in Austin Lane.

In another first for the Darwin Street Art Festival a Dark Art Gallery has been installed in the Activate Darwin Hub which sees an additional interactive element to the festival, accessible to all ages.
