Election Commitment Delivered – Northern Territory Coastal and Marine Management Strategy 2019-2029 Launched

Office of the Chief Minister

The Territory Labor Government has launched the Northern Territory Coastal and Marine Management Strategy 2019-2029 to ensure the long-term health and viability of the Territory’s coast and seas.

Delivering on an election commitment, the Strategy sets a 10-year direction for the management and protection of the coastal and marine environments of the Northern Territory.

The Territory’s coast and seas are unique, with a coastline extending 10,953 kilometres, including 887 islands, and coastal waters covering more than 72,000 square kilometres.

A partnership group was formed involving key landowners, community and industry partners to help develop the strategy for the long-term benefit of the environment and the economy.

It focuses on working together, fostering sustainable industries and supporting the Territory’s unique outdoor lifestyle.
