STATEMENT – Leave for Member for Nightcliff

Office of the Chief Minister

The Member for Nightcliff Natasha Fyles will be taking personal leave for four weeks from Monday 16 September 2019.

Ms Fyles, her partner and two children will be in the US where her 7-year-old son Henry will receive further specialised treatment on an Intramedullary Spinal Cord tumor.

Henry’s condition is very rare in children under the age of 10.

The family has previously sought medical intervention in the US where surgeons have expertise in the condition.

While Ms Fyles is grateful for the support shown to the family by friends, colleagues and the community, she asks for privacy to allow the family to focus on Henry’s wellbeing and recovery.

The Chief Minister Michael Gunner will act for Ms Fyles in her Parliamentary role as Minister for Health and Minister for Disabilities.  Minister for Local Government, Housing and Community Development Gerry McCarthy will act as Attorney-General, Minister for Justice and Leader of Government Business.  Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture Lauren Moss will act as Minister for the Arafura Games.
