Enhancing Visitor Experience: Larapinta Trail Upgrades Complete

Office of the Chief Minister

The iconic Larapinta Trail has even more to offer visitors thanks to $600,000 worth of infrastructure upgrades completed this week.

Alice Springs companies, Tricky Tracks and Nicholl Construction completed the works and the upgrades will support and promote the tourism sector in the region by providing enhanced facilities for visitors.

Upgrades include the realignment of Section 7 of the trail between Ellery Creek Big Hole and Serpentine Gorge, which gives walkers the option to trek the north side of Heavitree Range.

The realigned trail leads walkers away from the main vehicle access corridor for the park along Namatjira Drive, providing a more remote experience and stunning views of the Chewings Range.

The upgrades also include three new camp shelters at Ellery Creek, Ormiston Gorge and Redbank Gorge. The shelters feature interpretive signage and provide walkers with access to water tanks and toilets.

Quotes from Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Lauren Moss:

“These upgrades to the Larapinta Trail have supported local jobs and will attract new and return visitors to the region.

“The upgrades complement the Territory Labor Government’s $21.3 million Turbocharging Tourism investment in parks infrastructure in Central Australia.

“We invested in the Larapinta upgrades after listening to feedback from walkers, and now there is more room for them to spread out and experience this phenomenal Territory wilderness.

“This will make the experience far more enjoyable and memorable, and research shows word-of-mouth recommendations about memorable experiences are one of the best forms of advertising.”
