Boosting our Population through NT Higher Education Grants

Office of the Chief Minister

The Territory Labor Government is strengthing the Territory’s skills base, and helping keep Territory students in the NT by offering Higher Education Study Grants to those undertaking their first undergraduate degree in the NT.

There are 20 higher education grants available in the 2020 program.

Valued at $5,000 the grants are used to assist students for much needed items such as textbooks and laptops, as well as contributing to course fees here in the Territory.

The grants are also used as an incentive to encourage NT students to stay in the Territory and harness their skills base here.

Higher Education Grants are aimed at supporting our local graduates and create industry diversification and population growth in the NT.

The Northern Territory will soon be known as a local and international student hub with the construction of the new Charles Darwin University CBD campus – creating an attractive city for students to stay, learn and work.

Applications for the Higher Education Grants close on 6 March 2020; for more information and eligibility criteria visit www.nt.gov.au/learning.

Quotes attributed to Chief Minister Michael Gunner:

“The Territory Labor Government is investing in Territorians by supporting them to further their knowledge and skills, to ensure locals can take up skilled job opportunities here in the Territory.

“1446 Territory students received their Northern Territory Certificate of Education – a record breaking NT figure – with 116 of students receiving an ATAR in the top 10% of Australia. We want to harness this talent and allow it flourish the NT, in turn further growing our workforce and population.

“This government is investing in all areas of education and training, from early childhood through to school years; apprenticeships and traineeships and higher learning - unlike the CLP, who slashed education funding. We know investing in the education, training and skilling of Territorians is not just the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do.”
