The Territory Labor Government is putting more police on the beat and giving them the best resources possible to tackle crime.
Fifty-nine new police recruits are now half-way through their 30 week training program, which will see them graduate in May.
They will be posted across the Territory, including 30 to Alice Springs, 19 to Katherine and 10 to Tennant Creek – bringing the needed boost to resources in the regions.
They will build upon the fantastic results police have been achieving across the Territory, including 10-year lows in alcohol-related assaults, and 4-5 year lows in commercial break-ins in Darwin, Palmerston and Alice Springs.
Counting these recruits, there is currently around 135 more police than when the CLP were in Government.
There is also 75 Police Auxiliary Liquor Inspectors stationed across Territory bottleshops - stopping alcohol from getting into the wrong hands and taking pressure off other resources like our Watch Houses and Hospitals.
An additional squad of 30 recruits is scheduled to commence training this June.

“We are delivering on our promise of 120 extra Police on the beat - the train-wreck CLP Government promised more police but failed to deliver.
“We have ensured that our Police College has run at full capacity to provide police with the troops they need on the ground.
“We are also giving police the best resources possible including a brand new Palmerston Police Station and Watch House, a new Nightcliff Police Station (with construction starting in the coming weeks), and 400 more CCTV cameras across the Territory.
“The Territory Labor Government delivers more police – Terry Mills and the CLP deliver more cuts.”
Local Member for Braitling Dale Wakefield:
“These 30 constables will be a welcomed addition to Alice Springs. More police on the streets means more resources to help tackle and deter crime in our town.
“We have listened to business owners who say they want to see more police on our streets. Until these recruits are in Alice, additional police will be posted to the town (commencing this week) to provide a higher visibility presence throughout our CBD.”
