Safer Communities – More Police on the Frontline as Fifty Six Graduate

Office of the Chief Minister

Fifty six police constables have today graduated from their training and are ready to hit the beat as Northern Territory Police Officers.

Following the outbreak of COVID-19, the decision was made to graduate the recruits 6 weeks early to give our force more boots on the ground.

They will be deployed across the Territory, to Alice Springs (31), Katherine (16) and Tennant Creek (9) - providing a much needed boost in our regional areas.

They will build upon the fantastic work our force has achieved, including significant reductions in alcohol related violence.

A further 12 Aboriginal Community Police Officers (ACPOs) will also graduate at the end of May.

Recruitment is currently underway for an Accelerated Recruitment Program (ARP) of 30 experienced police officers from interstate. This squad is expected to commence an intensive 8 week training program mid-year.

Quotes from Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Nicole Manison

“We are giving our police the best resources possible to fight crime. On Tuesday we watched the construction begin on the new Nightcliff Police Station – today we are graduating another 56 constables.

“These constables form part of the Governments promise to deliver an additional 120 police in the Territory.

“I congratulate them on their graduation and wish them all the best as they start their careers as a Northern Territory Police Officer.”
