$2M Creative Industries Sector Immediate Response and Resilience Program: Channel NT - Virtual Territory Producer Appointed

Office of the Chief Minister

Local creative Rick Knight has been appointed Producer of Channel NT Virtual Territory, an integral initiative to showcase NT artists and support the creation of accessible digital content as part of the Territory Labor Government’s $2 million Creative Industries Sector Immediate Response and Resilience Program.

Developed in response to the impacts of COVID-19, the Creative Industries Sector Immediate Response and Resilience Program will provide practical support to the arts, creative and screen industry sector.

Funding of $200 000 has been allocated towards the Channel NT Virtual Territory program, and Mr Knight will develop and oversee content creation for the new platform, Channel NT.

The digital platform will support and highlight the quality and depth of the arts sector in the NT while enabling artists and organisations to explore new ways to engage the community and showcase their work.

Grant funding will be provided through the Channel NT Virtual Territory program to support artists and creatives to develop content.

Applications are closed and successful recipients will be notified soon.

Quotes from Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Lauren Moss:

“The Territory Labor Government recognises the importance of a healthy and vibrant artistic and cultural sector to our community, and is committed to boosting economic growth and creating jobs across the Territory to ensure the sector can rebound from the impacts of COVID-19.

“The Channel NT Virtual Territory initiative is an integral part of the Territory Government’s Creative Industries Sector Immediate Response and Resilience Program. The Virtual Territory Producer role is critical to nurturing the incredible talent and creative development of NT artists, and I thank Rick Knight for his passion and important work in supporting the sector during these challenging times.”

Quotes from Virtual Territory Producer, Rick Knight:

“The arts and entertainment industry has been severely affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. Hundreds of local artists, performers and arts practitioners have been unsure of their performance and release calendars and the on flowing predicted income. This has affected artistic motivation and morale in the sector.

“I’m so excited and grateful to the Territory Government for their crucial support in providing a platform for NT artists to keep performing to audiences and creating the work they are so passionate about. Together we will discover the best established and emerging artist talent in the Northern Territory in an exciting new format, with the Channel NT platform."
