The Territory Labor Government is providing further support to the arts and creative sector significantly impacted by COVID-19, with six Northern Territory artists, arts workers and arts organisations sharing in $200 000 of Strategic Projects and Arts Industry Development grants under the Arts NT Creative Industries Program.
This investment is in addition to the $2 million Creative Industries Sector Immediate Response and Resilience Program and will enable access and participation in the arts for people with a disability, strengthen business opportunities for independent Territory creatives and support skills development.
Four projects will receive Strategic Projects funding to increase the capacity and profile of NT artists with disabilities through arts education and training, workshops and the development of community based projects.
Recipients include:
LUMINOUS – Disability Theatre Mentorship / Professional Development: Tania Maree Lieman through Browns Mart Theatre.
Ngaruwanajirri Printmaking Workshop 2020 – Ngaruwanajirri Inc.
Strong Feelings – Incite Arts Inc.
Bindi Digital Arts Program – Desart on behalf of Lifestyle Solutions (Aust) Ltd.
Independent artist, Karen Martin-Stone has been invited to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2021. Strategic Projects funding will support Karen to showcase her production, I See Dead People at this significant international event and to increase her profile as an independent creative professional.
Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation will receive Strategic Arts Industry Development funding for the project Town Camp Artists – Fabric and Fashion, enabling the artists to develop the current model of their fashion business to increase business revenue and support Aboriginal employment in textiles and fashion.
Local artist Karen Rogers has been awarded a 2020 Creative Fellowship which supports Territory artists and arts professionals to undertake research or professional development to benefit their artistic practice and the arts, culture and creative industries.
She will receive $25 000 to support her project Ngukurr Fashion and further her skills development in mentoring, marketing, business management, textile design and printing.
Karen joins 2020 fellows Winsome Jobling, Jo Dutton, Sandra Thibodeaux and Michelle Culpitt.
