Election Commitment Delivered: Stage 2 and 3 of Nightcliff Renal Complete

Office of the Chief Minister

The Nightcliff Renal Unit redevelopment project is complete with stage 2 and 3 of the project now finished.

The $10.5 million project has seen the existing facility completely re-modelled into a contemporary, fit-for-purpose facility for dialysis patients, and created approximately 150 jobs during construction.

The facility has 32 chairs in operation, up from 28 chairs before construction and includes:

·       new patient consultation rooms;

·       A meeting room that includes capability to deliver telehealth services;

·       Expansion of patient and staff amenities;

·       New reception area and office space;

·       Back-up emergency power supply; and

·       Upgraded parking facilities.

The project has been delivered in three stages by local construction company, Sitzler, in order to ensure uninterrupted delivery of renal services throughout the construction period.

Sitzler’s project management throughout recent construction was proactively and successfully adapted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and works managed around minimising any potential risks to immune-compromised patients.

Quotes attributable to Natasha Fyles, Minister for Health:

“Upon completion of stage one in November last year renal services able to commence in the new extension with the entire $10.5 million job creating project now complete.

“The Territory Labor Government has invested heavily into renal services across the Northern Territory in this term of government having launched the NT Renal Services Strategy 2017-2021, expanding renal capacity by 16 beds in Alice Springs, the construction of the Pirlangimpi Renal Room and now with the completion of Nightcliff.

“Nightcliff was a project managed from start to finish by local contractors, creating 150 jobs, and delivering much needed facilities and life-saving treatment in Nightcliff with the service currently fully subscribed."
