240 Construction Jobs and a New Palmerston Fire Complex

Office of the Chief Minister

The Territory Labor Government continues to invest in projects that create local jobs and enhance community safety– like the Palmerston Regional Fire Rescue and Emergency Services Complex.

Government has today announced that C&R Constructions have been awarded the contract to build the $25 million complex, strategically located on Howard Springs Road.

The complex - which will create over 240 jobs during construction - will be home to station firefighters and the Palmerston NTES Volunteers Unit, and will give the residents of Palmerston and rural a modern facility that will meet their growing needs for decades to come.

It will feature more room for larger appliances, increased capacity for larger crew numbers on extreme fire danger days, operation and meeting rooms, a training area, a breathing apparatus room, a workshop and communications tower.

Following a final design phase, construction will commence in November 2020, and expected to be completed in late 2021.

Quotes from Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Nicole Manison:

“Our firefighters do an incredible job, and we are ensuring they have the best resources possible to deal with our tough fire seasons.

“This will be the fourth fire facility the Territory Labor Government has built since coming to government, along with upgrades to four other stations across the Territory.

“Only a Labor Government will continue to invest in our vital frontline services.”

Quotes from Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Eva Lawler:

“A year ago we were opening the new state-of-the-art Palmerston Police Station, and today we are awarding the tender for the new Palmerston Fire Complex.

“Palmerston is the fastest growing region in the Territory – and it is this government who has invested in the best infrastructure possible to support the region for decades to come.”

Quotes from Local Member for Brennan Tony Sievers:

“The current Palmerston Fire Station is coming to its end of life and is struggling to keep up with the growing demands of Palmerston.

“This new complex will provide our local firefighters with a modern facility that they both need and deserve – I am proud to be part of a government who delivers for the people of Palmerston.”
