Office of the Chief Minister

Anticipation is building for the sixth season of Million Dollar Fish with more chances to win the elusive $1 million dollar barra than ever.

One new Million Dollar Fish has been released which will see a total of seven red-tagged $1 million barra in NT waterways for Season 6, along with 100 red-tagged barra worth $10,000 each.

Twenty $5,000 purple-tagged barra, with $2,500 awarded to the winning angler and $2,500 donated to the winners’ Million Dollar Fish affiliated charity of choice are also back for the 2020-21 season.

Season 6 also introduces the Double Tag Barra for the first time, recognising both the angler and a mate when it comes time to divvy up the winnings.

Each of the five fishing regions that make up the Million Dollar Fish competition contains one Double Tag Barra, with the winning fisho to score $10,000, plus another $5,000 to give to a mate who’s had a tough year.

Registered participants who reel in a tagged fish will score even more; with prizes to include the first-ever official Million Dollar Fish shirt made locally in Darwin by BigFish Gear.

Season 6 also has a limited edition shirt available to purchase, also made locally by BigFish Gear. Any fisho who hooks a tagged fish while wearing the new merchandise will receive a $1,000 Big Fish Gear gift voucher.

Competition registrants will also go into the Lucky Prize Pool for the chance to take home some of the $50,000 worth of incredible prizes donated by Million Dollar Fish partners.

The iconic competition officially commences on Thursday, 1 October 2020 and will run for six months until Wednesday, 31 March 2021.

Quotes from Million Dollar Fish Season 2 winner Kelli Carroll:

“I was very excited to be the first female fisho to catch a tagged barra through Million Dollar Fish. It wasn’t until I caught the tagged fish back in Season 2 that I think everyone I knew realised this competition is legit.

“It’s free to enter and you don’t even have to enjoy fishing to win awesome monthly prizes. I always encourage my friends down south to enter. It’s quick, easy, and best of all, anyone can win!”
