Keeping Territory Youth Engaged: Release of the December 2020/January 2021 School Holiday Program

The Territory Labor Government has invested in over 600 activities for children, young people and families throughout the Territory in the upcoming school holiday (18 December – 31 January).

The program aims to keep young people engaged during the extended school holiday period in the Territory.

The school holiday program provides a great opportunity for young Territorians to experience new sports, get creative through arts and craft activities, or go on fun excursions.

Highlights of the December/January school holiday program:

Alice Springs - more than 180 activities will be on offer in Alice Springs, including pool parties, movies at the cinema, Get Out - Get Active at The Y, discos plus activities at the GAP and Brown Street Youth Centres, along with the YORET 24/7 trial at the Youth Hub.

Darwin - 124 diverse and engaging activities will be available including pool parties, arts and crafts, barista sessions and sports including 3x3 basketball with Hoops 4 Health Academy. The Shak will be open until 7pm every Friday.

Palmerston - 125 activities will occur in Palmerston including pool parties, arts and crafts, activities at the Y, Youth Drop In Sports, movies, discos and a fancy dress party.

Barkly - 132 activities including arts and craft, sports, pool days, excursions, movie nights and loads of fun activities and events at the Youth Drop In Centre.

Katherine - 100 activities will be on offer, including pool open days, indoor skating, movie nights, arts and craft, basketball, discos and Youth Drop in.

East Arnhem - covering 33,000 square kilometres and has a variety of activities in communities across the region such as hip hop workshops, movies, arts and crafts, AFL, movies and discos.

In addition to the $60,000 invested in school holiday programs through the Youth Engagement Grant Program, the Territory Labor Government invests $1.75 million per year into school holiday and after-hours programs in Darwin, Palmerston, Tennant Creek, Katherine, East Arnhem and Alice Springs through the Regional Youth Activity Grants program.

All activity providers are required to comply with COVID-19 safety measures.
