Myilly Point Playground Precinct Open

Office of the Chief Minister

From this weekend families and Top End locals will be able to enjoy the new Myilly Point Playground Precinct.

The new landscaping and playground precinct includes:

  • Shaded picnic areas;
  • Seating;
  • Tropical landscaping;
  • Food truck ports, along with power and water services;
  • Adventure play area with a rock slide and active climbing equipment; and a
  • Basketball, scooter and skate area.

The corner of the Myilly Point site is now lush and green and is ideal for community gatherings and children to play. It flows on from the work the Territory Labor Government is doing to revitalise the Darwin CBD in a place that locals and visitors enjoy.

The playground development was delivered on this site through extensive community consultation. Future work on the site will acknowledge the history of the site, including the Kahlin Compound.

Local business DTA Contractors completed the works which supported more than 20 jobs.

The completion of stage one involved the redevelopment of a portion of the Old Hospital Site at Myilly Point on the corner of Lambell Terrace and Kahlin Avenue with multiple playground zones, landscaping, and carpark for the area.

Remediation works have been carefully managed across the wider Myilly site and endorsed by the Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority, with a fence installed to divide the playground from the rest of the site. This means any future development works will have a robust asbestos map and guideline for use.
