Katherine Showground Sporting Upgrades Complete

Office of the Chief Minister

Work is complete on a significant $1.9 million upgrade to improve facilities at Katherine Showgrounds.

Making sure our communities have up to date quality infrastructure is important for economic growth and opportunity.

The $1.9 million upgrades consisted of upgrades to the camp draft facility, including:

  •  a new ring road and entry design,
  • a new amenities building,
  • upgrades to the camping area,
  • extension to and air-conditioning of the Turf Pavilion,
  • and a new cattle laneway and loading ramp.

The NT Government had granted $6.9 million to the Katherine Town Council (KTC) for infrastructure upgrades at both the showgrounds and the sportsgrounds, in line with KTC’s Infrastructure Masterplan priorities.

The remaining $5 million will contribute to replacement of Don Dale Pavilion at the sportsgrounds with a new structure, which is scheduled for completion by December 2021.

The Pavilion tender was awarded to Norbuilt Pty Ltd in December 2020.

The Town Council is using other unspent grant funding, funds from an external grant and contributing its own funds to cover the remaining shortfall.

The old building has been demolished and some services relocated.
