Community Members Called on to Join the Territory's Judicial Commission

Expressions of interest have opened for the appointment of up to two community members to the Northern Territory’s Judicial Commission to be set up by the end of this year.

The Judicial Commission is being set up to receive, examine and report on complaints regarding the behaviour or ability of judicial officers and non-judicial members of the Northern Territory Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Appointments to the Judicial Commission include at least one but no more than two community members of high standing who are eligible for the role under section 8(3) of the Act.

The Judicial Commission will also include the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Chief Judge of the Local Court, the President of NTCAT and the President of the Northern Territory Law Society.

The appointment of a community member will be made by the Administrator following nomination by the Attorney-General.

Applications should outline personal and professional experience and be addressed to the Director, Legal Policy Unit.
