Livin’ Local winners snap picture perfect Territory

Office of the Chief Minister

Territorians have overwhelmingly backed the Livin’ Local social media photo competition with more than 1000 entries showcasing the natural beauty of the Red Centre and Top End.

Alice Springs local Becky Page-Wood and Darwin resident Sarsha Sheriff submitted picture perfect entries and both won a $4000 holiday voucher to spend in the Northern Territory.

Tourism NT’s panel of judges selected the winners based on how effectively entries captured the essence of the Northern Territory through the eyes of a local and reflected the Territory lifestyle we’re famous for.

Page-Wood’s entry via Instagram @bpwood featured a photo of herself at Ormiston Gorge Tjoritja/West MacDonnell National Park and called on her followers to: “explore the NT because I guarantee you won’t regret it.”

Meanwhile, Sherriff’s Instagram winning photo @sarsh_sparks shows a line of water buffalos walking through floodplains at Bamurru Plains, photgraphed by visitors from an airboat with the cation: “The ultimate NT adventure – airboats and buffalo”.

Tourism NT’s Livin’ Local NT social media photo competition opened on April 1 and delivered a call to action to Territorians to post photos of their favourite Territory destination to Facebook or Instagram using the hashtags #LivinLocalNT and #NTAustralia.

“I congratulate Livin’ Local winners Becky-Page-Wood and Sarsha Sheriff for capturing the natural beauty of the Territory.

“The Northern Territory is home to so many amazing experiences and scenery and this social media competition was the perfect opportunity to show Australians interstate what they are missing out on.”

Quotes from Becky Page-Wood, Alice Springs local and winner of Livin’ Local Photo competition:

“I love being outdoors, exploring new places and going camping at every chance I get and the NT certainly offers all this and more. Since moving to the Territory I have had some incredible adventures 4WDing and hiking, it’s the best way to see everything!

“By sharing my pics on social media it shows my friends and family how many amazing places we have at our door step and to convince them to come visit me! I also have a new appreciation for the beauty of the desert which many Australians don’t ever get the opportunity to see.

“For my ULTIMATE NT holiday experience I plan to go on a Top End Safari camp and/or the Tiwi Islands!!”

Quotes from Sarsha Sherriff, Darwin local and winner of Livin’ Local Photo competition:

“I love the NT’s relaxed tropical lifestyle, its friendly folks and the freedom it affords to explore beautiful, barely inhabited landscapes.

“I get a real buzz from sharing special moments and beautiful places on social media, knowing that each post I share will inspire at least one person and add a positive spin to their day.

“With my ULTIMATE NT holiday experience it could be any combination of a heli-tour over Katherine Gorge complete with a sunset view sipping sundowners, a supported multi-day kayaking trip on the Katherine River, Bare Sand Island turtle tour, riding the new mountain bike trails in Nitmiluk National Park followed by a night at Cicada Lodge, a Top End birding tour or an airboat experience on the Mary River Floodplain of course!”
