Office of the Chief Minister

With school holidays just around the corner, the Territory Labor Government has provided more than $65,000 to ensure there is plenty to keep kids engaged and entertained during the semester break.

The June/July 2021 school holiday program, which runs from Saturday 26 June 2021 to Sunday 18 July 2021, offers a range of activities and events for children of all ages, with music, sports, arts and crafts, pool parties, movie nights and excursions on offer across the Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Barkly, East Arnhem and Alice Springs regions.

Around 34 organisations have received funding through the Youth Vibe Grant Program to create opportunities for engagement, enjoyment and celebration, with a focus on maintaining student connections to their cultures and communities.

Shak to The Streets will be delivering outreach programs at Casuarina Library, Lyons Centre, Lake Leanyer, Malak Centre and Casuarina Pool.

In addition to more than 60 holiday activities, the Palmerston Festival will be held from 10 to 16 July. Delivered in partnership with the City of Palmerston, the program features a range of entertainment including headline act, Electric Fields which will be supported by Tigerlily and local stars J-Milla and Yung Milla. There is also a range learning activities including Geekculture, pro wrestling, Esports Cosplay 3x3 Big Hustle, Free Moves and much more.

With the dry season in full swing, school holiday activities will be celebrating the great outdoor spaces of East Arnhem, including movie nights under the stars, NAIDOC activities, camps on country, youth drop-in centre, colour runs and sporting events.

Katherine kids have a big entertainment agenda including pool open days, indoor skating, movie nights, arts and craft, skateboarding, Australian Air Force Paper Pilots and laser tag.

More than 75 activities will be on offer in Alice Springs including The Y Youth Sports Series, weekly movies, Phoney Film Festival, hip hop and coding workshops. There will also be NAIDOC Week youth bands, GAP and Brown Street youth centres and the YORET 24/7 Youth Hub.
