Lockdown support for arts and culture sector

Office of the Chief Minister

The Territory Labor Government has announced a $150,000 support package for members of the arts and culture sector adversely affected by the most recent COVID-19 response across Greater Darwin and Alice Springs.

Up to $1000 is available for individuals who were ineligible for the Territory Small Business Lockdown Payment program, and $4000 for organisations.

The Arts and Culture 2021 COVID-19 Interruption Support program provides quick-response grants to assist Territory artists, arts workers and arts organisations impacted by this week's lockdown measures.

Funding will assist with losses - including income, venue hire, travel and accommodation – incurred by the cancellation of events. These include Darwin Fringe Festival shows, theatre productions, live music gigs, and arts and cultural workshops.

The grants round opens at midday on Monday 5 July 2021 and closes at 2pm, Monday 2 August 2021 (grantsnt.nt.gov.au). Applicants will receive notification within 10 working days.

The Arts NT team is available to assist with any queries. Applicants are encouraged to make contact before submitting via (08) 8999 8981, toll free on 1800 678 237 or email arts.office@nt.gov.au.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Chansey Paech:

“Unfortunately, the recent coronavirus cluster occurred during the Territory’s peak visitor and festival season and that will adversely affect many involved in the arts and culture sector.

“These quick-response grants provide continuity, and support employment for those working in the industry.

“The Territory Labor Government values our arts and culture sector as a major economic contributor that adds to the NT’s creative and cultural diversity. That’s why we are backing our artists, arts workers and organisations during these tough times.”
