The Territory Labor Government is reducing the cost of living for Territory families and supporting local businesses by boosting the Sport Voucher Scheme.

More than 250 local sport, cultural, drama and musical providers are part of the Territory Government’s Sport Voucher program.

Budget 2021 has $6.04 million allocated to the scheme with the vouchers available to every child enrolled in school from transition to year 12.

In a first, the vouchers will this year be able to be used for swimming and music programs – including instrument hire – if delivered during school hours by registered activity providers.

From Monday 12 July Territory parents and guardians will be able to apply for:

• Urban sport vouchers - Families with children enrolled in urban schools are entitled to a $100 sport voucher each semester to help with the cost of their child participating in a chosen sport, active recreation or cultural activity, with the addition to use these funds to pay for music lessons, instrument hire and swimming learning lessons within school.
• Remote sport vouchers - Under the remote program, regional councils or Aboriginal corporations undertake remote community consultation to identify activity preferences. The NT Government then funds registered activity providers to deliver the programs to remote communities.
• Learn-to- swim - Provides children aged 0 to 5 years who are not enrolled in school with two $100 vouchers each semester to assist in reducing the cost of participating in water safety programs.
