Investment and Major Projects Commissioners Appointed

Office of the Chief Minister

The Territory Labor Government has today announced two leaders to turbocharge investment and major projects, and drive a $40 billion economy by 2030.

Jason Schoolmeester will take on the role of the Territory’s Major Projects Commissioner.

Andrew Cowan will continue as the Territory’s Investment Commissioner, following more than three months in the interim position.

Jason Schoolmeester has held key leadership positions in the Territory over the past decade. During this time, he has been a driving force in economic and industry development initiatives in energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, aquaculture, mining, defence and national security and space.

He led the successful competitive process to secure development of the Northern Gas Pipeline, and also served as a commercial lawyer for seven years.

Andrew Cowan has extensive experience delivering complex projects and driving strategic government priorities, most recently for Investment Territory, national security and defence and regional development.

He secured a $355.5 million investment package for the Future of Jabiru and Kakadu, through partnering with Traditional Owners, the Commonwealth and Energy Resources Australia. Over the last 18 months he has also worked on advancing the Territory’s digital capabilities and has been driving international sub-sea cable connectivity that will provide links from Darwin to Asia and America.

The Territory is home to about $11 billion worth of major projects, and there is about $35 billion worth of planned and proposed projects that are also in the pipeline.

These roles are a key part of the Territory’s strengthened approach to winning investment to support the Territory’s economic growth.

Both commissioners will provide monthly progress reports to the Chief Minister and twice-yearly reports to Cabinet.

An annual report card on the activities and deliverables of each role will be publicly released.
