Watarrka Track Expression of Interest Now Open

Office of the Chief Minister

An exciting opportunity to invest in one of Territory’s most breathtaking national parks is a step closer to reality today, with the formal expression of interest now open for the Watarrka Track.

The Territory Labor Government is seeking investors to partner with Government and Anangu Traditional Owners to build a new multiday walk in the Watarrka National Park, located in the heart of Central Australia.

The opportunity follows on from a successful registration of interest process that saw strong interest from right across the country to be involved in the unique opportunity.

The Watarrka Track is on target to be one of Australia’s best and most scenic outback hiking experiences.

It will take visitors on an unforgettable journey across red sandstone escarpments and cliffs, and past cool spring rock holes. Walkers will also have the opportunity to spot more than 500 unique species of flora and fauna along the way.

The project has been deemed ‘so outstanding’ the Territory Labor Government has already committed $5.6 million in co-funding.

The formal expression of interest will close on 16 September.
